In a 1970 interview with Rolling Stone, Jimi Hendrix was asked "how does it feel to be the best guitarist in the world?" His reply? "I dunno man, ask Rory Gallagher." He had a point there.
On watching that clip, the word effortless springs to mind, closely followed by the word fuck. The next clip is a fucking lesson in what a bottleneck is for. Pay attention, you will learn something.
I would fucking kill for that rhythm section. Although I wouldn't be able to look at the bass player onstage because I'd be too busy laughing to play the fucking guitar. Here's a couple more slabs of slide magic, an unaccompanied electric version of Gambling Blues from the Isle of Wight festival, followed by an outfuckingrageously shameless version of Bullfrog Blues live in Paris in 1980. The man was a fucking god.

I'm pretty much without speakers during computer time...work/late night after everybody's gone to bed...for the next couple of days, but rest assured me and the boy will be sittin' down for these in the near future.
ReplyDeleteHe'll have an actual guitar by then.
Dude that last clip is one of the coolest things I've ever seen with a guitar.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting that...the boy is gonna flip when he hears that.
D**N!
Always a pleasure sir. Yeah, that last clip is pure stupid joy. What guitar have you got for the boy?
ReplyDeleteJust a red acoustic...I don't even think it's got a name on it.
ReplyDeleteThe great thing about Rory is his diction...nothing forced about it at all. Like George Thurogood...I actually don't mind his guitar playing on those old songs, but the second he opens his mouth I want to vomit.
Bullfrog Blues is the only thing that's gotten the boy off Morning by Band of Skulls (a brilliant little slice of Rock n Roll in my opinion...but 14 times in a row???). I tried 20th Century Boy and he dismissed it.."that's not g'itar", but Bullfrog Blues got his attention.
